Toyota to unveil ninth-generation Hilux with major design updates on November 10
Toyota has officially confirmed that the next generation Hilux will make its world premiere on November 10, 2025. The announcement came through a short teaser video posted on Toyota Motor Thailand’s YouTube channel, giving viewers a partial look at what will be the ninth-generation version of the iconic pickup. The teaser hints at a major design overhaul while retaining the Hilux’s rugged appeal.
Refreshed Design and Modern Styling
While the upcoming Hilux is expected to preserve its recognisable proportions, its design language has evolved noticeably. The teaser reveals slimmer LED headlights paired with J-shaped daytime running lamps, alongside a redesigned front grille that prominently displays bold “TOYOTA” lettering. A sculpted bonnet with a recessed centre adds to its muscular stance.
At the rear, Toyota appears to have reworked the taillights, shifting from the earlier “3”-shaped design to a new C-shaped layout. The tailgate also carries the Toyota branding, with the model badge and grab handle neatly integrated next to the third brake light. Additionally, a new seven-point star-pattern alloy wheel design has been introduced to complement the updated look.
Cabin and Features
Although Toyota has not revealed the interior yet, expectations suggest a step-up in quality and comfort. The new Hilux could receive improved materials, digital displays, and enhanced storage options. Despite these upgrades, Toyota is likely to maintain the Hilux’s utilitarian focus and off-road capability, ensuring it appeals to both lifestyle buyers and traditional pickup enthusiasts.
Underpinnings and Powertrain
Mechanically, the new Hilux will continue to be based on the IMV platform, albeit with some refinements. The tried-and-tested 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine – already featuring a 48V mild-hybrid system in some markets – will likely continue. This unit produces 201 BHP and up to 500 Nm of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. Power will be delivered through a 4×4 drivetrain with a low-range transfer case for off-road versatility.
Reports also suggest that Toyota may be developing plug-in hybrid or electric versions of the Hilux in the future, though these have not been confirmed.
Market Outlook
The Hilux, while not a high-volume seller, has maintained a loyal following for its reliability and adventure-ready character. With the global reveal just days away, there is growing speculation that Toyota might introduce the new model in India at a later stage, appealing to the niche lifestyle pickup segment.
