Toyota recalls 2257 ninth-gen Camry units in India for camera glitch
Toyota Kirloskar Motor has announced a voluntary recall for the ninth-generation Toyota Camry in India to address a potential issue with its 360-degree camera system. The recall, issued on October 30, 2025, impacts 2257 units of the executive hybrid sedan currently on sale across the country.
Reason for the Recall
According to details available through SIAM documentation, the recall pertains to a software glitch in the parking assist ECU, which is a part of Toyota’s Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) system. The malfunction could cause the camera feed to freeze or fail to display on the infotainment screen, particularly when the ignition is switched on or off within a short period. Toyota has initiated the recall to reprogram the affected software and ensure optimal system performance.
2025 Toyota Camry Overview
The current-generation Camry, launched in India on December 11, 2024, is available in Elegant and Sprint Edition variants. Prices for both stand between Rs. 47.48 lakh and Rs. 47.62 lakh (ex-showroom). The Sprint Edition features minor exterior tweaks and additional features as part of a dealer-level enhancement package.
Powering the sedan is a 2.5-litre petrol engine paired with Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid system (THS 5), producing a combined output of 230 HP. With an ARAI-rated efficiency of 25.49 km/l, the Camry remains one of the most fuel-efficient premium sedans in India.
Market Position
Although the Camry does not have a direct rival in the Indian market, it continues to attract buyers seeking a hybrid alternative to models like the BMW 3 Series LWB, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4.
Toyota is expected to contact affected customers individually and carry out the software update free of charge at its authorised service centers.
